Sean Bell (May 18, 1983–November 25, 2006) was an African-American man who was shot and killed by undercover New York Police Department detectives (3 of whom were African-American) on November 25, 2006. Bell and two other friends were leaving Bell's bachelor party at a strip club in Jamaica, Queens when they were shot, in an incident that sparked fierce criticism of the police for the killing of an unarmed man and drew comparisons to the 1999 killing of Amadou Diallo. Three of the five detectives involved in the shooting were indicted by a grand jury for the incident but found NOT GUILTY on charges ranging from manslaughter to reckless endangerment. Bell was buried in Port Washington, New York.
I just want to thank B.E.T 106 & Park for actually reconizing this situation our culture is facing.
As a black woman, I am deeply saddened, angered, and at a loss of words at this moment in time. Sean Bell did not deserve to die. Amadou Diallo did not deserve to die. However, the United States Government as well as the NYPD believe that they have the unalienable right to cause harm to peoples of African descent. This is not the first, nor will it be the last time a PIG will get off scott-free for killing an unarmed Black Man. However, the question is when will we as a people come together and put an end to this madness?! When will we stop being complacent and starting moving towards a common goal to put an end to the reckless and racist behaviors of cops. Yes, two of the cops were African American. But just because we're of the same color, don't mean we're of the same kind. So once again "justice" under this bullshit government has been forced down our throats. And we have swallowed it. However, my stomach still remains empty.
